Revive Old Posts with FreshRank

Why update old posts?

Search engines favor fresh, accurate content. Rather than starting from scratch, updating existing articles usually wins faster rankings and traffic — but manual updates are time-consuming. FreshRank automates the tedious parts: it finds posts in decline, diagnoses problems using live web and Search Console data, and generates updated drafts you can review and publish.

What FreshRank does

FreshRank focuses on three core capabilities:

  • Prioritization via Google Search Console (GSC). It pulls real traffic and query data to rank posts by how much they stand to gain from an update.
  • Automated analysis. AI plus live web checks identify factual updates, structural/SEO issues, readability problems, and content gaps with clear action items.
  • Draft generation. FreshRank applies the suggestions and your site presets to produce an updated draft you can preview, edit, or publish.

Install and initial setup

FreshRank is a WordPress plugin. To install: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin (upload the .zip) → Activate. After activation a FreshRank AI menu appears in the dashboard.

Connect Google Search Console (recommended)

Connecting GSC enables data-driven prioritization. Steps:

  1. Sign in to console.cloud.google.com with the Google account that manages your Search Console property.
  2. Create a new project.
  3. In APIs & Services → Library, enable the Google Search Console API.
  4. Configure the OAuth consent screen (choose External, set an app name and email).
  5. In APIs & Services → Credentials, create an OAuth client ID (Web application). Add the Authorized redirect URI shown in FreshRank settings.
  6. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret into FreshRank → GSC settings.

You can use FreshRank without GSC, but you’ll lose its priority ranking based on real query and traffic trends. If connected, enable “GSC-based article prioritization” in FreshRank settings.

OpenAI integration and model selection

Add your OpenAI API key in FreshRank settings (from platform.openai.com). FreshRank offers default models that work well, but you can test different models to see which produces best results for your niche and tone.

Analyze content with FreshRank

Open the FreshRank dashboard to view published posts. If GSC is connected, sort by priority to focus where updates will likely deliver the biggest returns. Click Analyze Current Page or use the Analyze button for any post to run a full evaluation.

The analysis returns:

  • A priority score and the reasons the post needs updating.
  • An article quality score and a list of issues: outdated facts, SEO shortcomings, structure or readability problems, and content gaps.
  • Live web checks so suggestions reflect recent information and SERP context.

Use the report to make manual updates or proceed to automated rewriting.

Generate updated drafts

After analysis, click Create Updated Draft. Before generating, choose which categories FreshRank should address in Settings (content fixes, factual updates, SEO changes, severity thresholds). For an effective first pass, prioritize high-severity and factual issues.

When you generate a draft, FreshRank sends the article, diagnostic context, prompts, and your settings to the chosen AI model. When complete you can:

  • See a Draft Details summary describing changes.
  • Preview and edit the draft directly in WordPress.
  • View a revision-style diff of every modification.
  • Approve the draft to replace the live article.

Custom Instructions and site context

Enable Custom Instructions to provide site-level context: brand voice, audience notes, tone preferences, canonical terms, and style rules. These make generated drafts more consistent and publish-ready.

Track results and prioritize future work

FreshRank includes an Analytics module that turns traffic numbers into potential gains and measures performance after updates. Use this to validate wins, refine prioritization, and guide ongoing updates.

Six-step workflow summary

  1. Install FreshRank on your WordPress site.
  2. Connect Google Search Console for data-driven priorities.
  3. Add your OpenAI API key and pick preferred models.
  4. Analyze prioritized posts and review FreshRank’s recommendations.
  5. Generate drafts, review diffs, and approve changes.
  6. Monitor results in FreshRank Analytics and repeat.

Bottom line

FreshRank speeds the routine yet essential work of diagnosing and updating aging content. By combining GSC insights, live web checks, and AI-generated drafts, it helps you reclaim rankings and traffic without spending hours on manual research and rewriting. If you want, I can walk you through setup, recommend model/settings for your niche, or help draft your Custom Instructions.
