Revive Old Posts with FreshRank

Why update old posts

Older articles often slide down the rankings, but refreshing them is usually faster and more effective than creating new content. Google rewards freshness, and updating a post can regain traffic quickly. The challenge is that manual audits take hours—checking Search Console, verifying facts, spotting SEO opportunities, and rewriting. FreshRank automates those tasks and speeds the whole process.

What FreshRank does

  • Pulls real performance data from Google Search Console (if you connect it) to prioritize posts with the highest upside.
  • Uses AI to audit content and produce concrete, actionable recommendations (factual updates, SEO fixes, phrasing, missing data).
  • Generates updated draft content based on the analysis and your rewrite settings so you can review and publish quickly.

Install and initial setup

  • Install FreshRank like any WordPress plugin: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin (.zip) → Activate. A FreshRank AI panel appears in your dashboard.
  • For the best prioritization, connect Google Search Console (optional but recommended). In FreshRank settings enter an OAuth Client ID and Client Secret from Google Cloud.

Quick GSC setup summary:

  1. Sign into https://console.cloud.google.com with the Google account linked to Search Console.
  2. Create a new project.
  3. Go to APIs & Services → Library and enable the Google Search Console API.
  4. Open APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen: set an app name, Audience = External, and provide a contact email; then Create.
  5. APIs & Services → Credentials → Create Credentials → OAuth client ID → Web application. Add the Authorized redirect URI copied from FreshRank settings, then Create.
  6. Copy the OAuth Client ID and Client Secret into FreshRank settings and enable GSC-based article prioritization.
  • Add your OpenAI API key in FreshRank settings (available at https://platform.openai.com/api-keys). Default model choices work well; you can test different models if desired.

Analyze your content with FreshRank

  • Open the FreshRank dashboard to view all published posts. With GSC connected, sort by priority to see highest-potential articles first.
  • Run an audit by clicking Analyze Current Page or Analyze for individual posts. FreshRank returns a priority score and explains why a post needs attention (traffic trends, falling rankings, low relevance, factual drift).
  • The audit includes internal scoring, a list of issues, and fresh web-sourced data related to the topic. Use these suggestions to make manual edits or proceed to automated drafting.

Generate updated drafts

  • After an analysis, click Create Updated Draft next to the article.
  • Configure rewrite settings to control scope and tone: choose which categories of issues to address (factual updates, SEO problems, phrasing, severity levels).
  • FreshRank sends the article context, analysis, and your settings to the AI service and produces an updated draft (usually a minute or two).
  • When the draft is ready, open Draft Details to review a summary of changes and every issue the tool addressed.
  • Use View Changes to compare the draft with the current post via WordPress revisions; edit manually if you want tweaks.
  • Approve the draft to replace the live post on your site.

Custom Instructions and tone control

  • Enable Custom Instructions in FreshRank settings to give the AI brand, tone, or audience rules. This helps keep updates consistent with your site voice and editorial guidelines.

Track results and ROI

  • FreshRank includes an Analytics module (FreshRank AI → Analytics) that estimates potential gains from updating each article and tracks progress after you publish changes.
  • Unlike raw analytics, FreshRank translates metrics into actionable potential so you can prioritize updates that are most likely to return traffic.

Fast workflow (six steps)

  1. Install FreshRank on WordPress and connect Google Search Console (recommended).
  2. Add your OpenAI API key and choose AI models.
  3. Prioritize articles using the GSC-based score.
  4. Run content analyses on high-priority posts.
  5. Generate, review, and approve updated drafts.
  6. Monitor improvements in FreshRank Analytics and repeat the cycle.

Bottom line

FreshRank streamlines the work of reviving aging content by prioritizing the posts worth updating, identifying exact issues, drafting improved copies, and tracking gains over time. It shrinks manual effort and helps turn declining posts back into reliable traffic sources. If you want, I can walk you through GSC setup or suggest a testing workflow for your site.
