Revive Old Posts with FreshRank

Old posts losing rankings and traffic? Updating existing content usually beats writing new posts: it’s faster, ranks sooner, and Google rewards freshness. FreshRank speeds that process by finding which posts matter most, auditing them with AI, and producing actionable edits or full updated drafts.

What FreshRank does

  • Connects to Google Search Console (GSC) to surface real traffic and ranking signals and prioritize posts with the biggest upside.
  • Uses AI to analyze text and produce concrete, actionable suggestions: exact paragraphs, facts, SEO gaps, and structure issues.
  • Generates updated drafts based on those suggestions and your settings, so you can review and publish quickly.

Install and initial setup

  1. Install FreshRank as a WordPress plugin (Plugins → Add Plugin → Upload Plugin) and activate it.
  2. Open the FreshRank AI section in your dashboard and go to Settings to configure integrations and preferences.

Google Search Console integration (recommended)

FreshRank uses GSC to rank opportunities. You can skip it, but you’ll lose prioritization. To connect via OAuth:

  1. Go to https://console.cloud.google.com and sign in with the Google account used for GSC.
  2. Create a new project.
  3. APIs & Services → Library → enable the Google Search Console API.
  4. APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen → Get started. Choose Audience: External, set an app name and contact email, and Create.
  5. APIs & Services → Credentials → Create Credentials → OAuth client ID → Web application. Add the Authorized redirect URI shown in FreshRank settings and Create.
  6. Copy the OAuth Client ID and Client Secret into FreshRank settings.

OpenAI integration and model selection

  • In Settings, add your OpenAI API key (from https://platform.openai.com/api-keys).
  • Choose which models FreshRank should use. Defaults are sensible, but you can test different models to match your tone and content complexity.

Analyze your content

  • In the FreshRank dashboard you’ll see all published articles. If GSC is connected, sort by priority to find posts with the largest opportunity.
  • Click Analyze Current Page or the Analyze button next to any article to run an audit.
  • FreshRank returns a priority score plus a detailed assessment: factual updates, freshness needs, SEO gaps, structure and on-page issues, and competitive signals. It also pulls current web data for topic updates.
  • Use the analysis to make manual edits or proceed to automated drafting.

Generate updated drafts

  • After an analysis, click Create Updated Draft next to the article.
  • Tweak Content Settings to control which issues the rewrite should address (for example, factual updates only, SEO optimizations, or high-severity fixes).
  • FreshRank sends the article, analysis, and your prompts to OpenAI and returns an updated draft in a minute or two.
  • View Draft Details to see a summary of the changes and which issues were addressed.
  • Use View Changes to inspect WordPress revisions and see each edit in context. Preview and manually tweak the draft as needed.
  • Approve the draft to replace the current post, or save it as a revision for later.

Pro feature: Custom Instructions

  • Enable Custom Instructions in settings to give the AI your brand voice, tone, formatting rules, or other editorial guidelines. This helps outputs match your style and reduces manual rework.

Measure impact

  • FreshRank → Analytics estimates traffic gains from specific edits and shows performance since an article was updated. These estimates complement Google Analytics and GSC by translating raw signals into potential upside and progress over time.

Recommended workflow (6 steps)

  1. Connect GSC and OpenAI.
  2. Prioritize posts using FreshRank’s GSC-based score.
  3. Analyze top-priority articles.
  4. Adjust content settings to target the issues you care about.
  5. Generate and review updated drafts; edit if needed.
  6. Approve and publish updates, then monitor progress in Analytics.
