Why update old posts? Reworking existing articles is usually faster and more effective than writing new ones. FreshRank automates the hard parts: it pulls real performance data from Google Search Console (GSC), analyzes copy and SEO, verifies facts and data, and can generate updated drafts with AI. This guide explains how to install, connect, analyze, and rewrite posts with FreshRank so you can turn declining content into traffic winners.
What FreshRank does
FreshRank groups its features into three core capabilities:
– Connects to Google Search Console to pull clicks, impressions, positions, and trends so you can prioritize posts that are losing visibility.
– Uses AI to audit article quality and surface exact fixes—phrasing, missing facts, outdated data, and SEO issues—so you know what to change.
– Generates an updated draft based on the analysis and your preferences, letting you review and publish with one click.
Install FreshRank
FreshRank is a WordPress plugin. To install:
1. Download the plugin .zip.
2. In WordPress go to Dashboard → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the .zip.
3. Activate the plugin. A FreshRank AI section will appear in the admin sidebar.
Set up Google Search Console integration (short version)
Connecting GSC gives FreshRank real traffic signals and lets it rank update priorities. To link GSC you need OAuth credentials from Google Cloud:
1. Open https://console.cloud.google.com and sign in with the Google account that manages your GSC property.
2. Create a new project.
3. Go to APIs & Services → Library and enable the Google Search Console API.
4. Open APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen: choose External, enter an app name and contact email, and save.
5. Go to Credentials → Create Credentials → OAuth client ID → Web application. In Authorized redirect URIs add the URI shown in FreshRank settings.
6. Create the OAuth client, then copy the Client ID and Client Secret into FreshRank settings.
You can use FreshRank without GSC, but you’ll lose prioritized lists driven by real traffic trends. Enable “Enable GSC-based article prioritization” in settings to let FreshRank order posts by need.
Add OpenAI API keys
In FreshRank settings enter your OpenAI API key from https://platform.openai.com/api-keys and choose which AI models to use. FreshRank includes model presets you can test. Try different models on a few posts to find the best balance of tone, accuracy, and cost.
Analyze content with FreshRank
Open the FreshRank dashboard to view published posts. If GSC is connected, sort the list by priority so the highest-risk pages appear first. For any post click Analyze Current Page or the Analyze button.
After the scan, click the analysis score to see a detailed assessment. FreshRank will show:
– Quality and priority scores
– Concrete issues grouped by severity (e.g., factual updates, data refreshes, SEO problems)
– Fresh web-sourced information relevant to the topic
Use those suggestions to do manual edits or proceed to generate an updated draft.
Generate and review AI rewrites
Next to each analyzed article click Create Updated Draft. Before generating, configure rewrite settings to control what the AI addresses—factual updates, high-severity issues, SEO improvements, tone and length, etc. Start by prioritizing red/high-severity categories.
When you generate a draft, FreshRank sends the original article plus the analysis, prompts, and your brand presets to OpenAI. This usually takes a minute or two. Once ready, click View Draft Details to see what changed and which issues were addressed.
Options include viewing the draft, previewing it on your site, and seeing a change-by-change diff via WordPress revisions. Edit the draft if needed, then approve it to replace the current post or save it as a revision for later.
Use custom instructions
Enable Custom Instructions in settings to supply brand voice, target audience, stylistic rules, forbidden claims, or any other guidelines. These instructions are included with the prompt so AI-generated drafts match your editorial standards.
Track improvements with Analytics
FreshRank includes an Analytics module (FreshRank AI → Analytics) that interprets GSC data to estimate potential gains from updates and tracks performance after you publish changes. It helps you measure ROI beyond raw pageviews by showing traffic recovery, ranking shifts, and inferred lift from updates.
Recommended workflow
1. Install FreshRank and connect GSC (recommended).
2. Add your OpenAI API key and select model presets.
3. Use the GSC-prioritized list to pick pages that need work.
4. Analyze each post to get targeted, actionable suggestions.
5. Generate AI-updated drafts with settings tuned to your goals; review the diffs.
6. Approve and publish updates, then monitor results in Analytics.
