Old posts lose ground as search engines favor fresher content. Updating existing articles is usually faster and more effective than writing new pieces, but doing it by hand takes time. FreshRank automates and speeds that work: it pulls real traffic and ranking data from Google Search Console (GSC), analyzes text with AI, checks facts, spots SEO opportunities, and can generate updated drafts for review. This guide explains how to use FreshRank to turn declining posts into traffic winners.
What FreshRank does
– Connects to Google Search Console to fetch real traffic, impressions, and rankings, then prioritizes the posts that will benefit most from updates.
– Uses AI to analyze articles and produce actionable suggestions at the phrase, fact, and section level.
– Can generate updated drafts based on its analysis and your chosen settings, so you can review and publish quickly.
– Includes a free analysis tier; if you try it, the developers welcome feedback.
Install and connect
1. Install the plugin: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin (.zip) → Activate. After activation you’ll see FreshRank AI in the WordPress admin.
2. Integrate Google Search Console (recommended for prioritization): FreshRank settings → Google Search Console tab → add your OAuth Client ID and Secret from Google Cloud. Quick setup:
– In Google Cloud Console create a new project.
– APIs & Services → Library → enable “Google Search Console API.”
– Configure the OAuth consent screen (External) and create OAuth credentials for a Web application.
– Add FreshRank’s Authorized redirect URI (displayed in the FreshRank panel) to the credential settings.
– Copy the OAuth Client ID and Secret into FreshRank.
Note: FreshRank works without GSC, but you’ll lose prioritization and real-traffic insights.
3. Add an OpenAI API key in FreshRank settings (get it from platform.openai.com). Choose an AI model — FreshRank includes recommended presets, and you can test different models if you want.
Analyze content with FreshRank
– Open the FreshRank dashboard to view published articles. If GSC is connected, enable “GSC-based article prioritization.”
– Sort articles by priority and start with the highest-ranked items. Click Analyze for a single post or Analyze Current Page for the post you’re viewing.
– When analysis finishes, click the analysis score to inspect FreshRank’s assessment. The report highlights high-impact issues, suggested factual updates, SEO fixes, readability improvements, and fresh web-sourced data relevant to the topic.
– Use the recommendations to make manual edits, or proceed to generate an updated draft.
Generate updated drafts
– After analysis, use the Create Updated Draft button next to the article. Before generating drafts, review your FreshRank rewrite settings to decide the focus (e.g., factual accuracy, high-severity SEO issues, tone, or brand voice).
– Generating a draft sends the article, analysis, and your rewrite guidelines to the AI model and usually takes a minute or two.
– When the draft is ready, open View Draft Details for a summary of changes. You can preview edits, see side-by-side diffs using WordPress revisions, and manually tweak the draft.
– Approve the draft to replace or update the live post.
– Pro tip (Pro feature): Custom Instructions let you supply site context, brand voice, or policy constraints so AI updates align with your editorial standards.
Track results over time
– FreshRank includes an Analytics module (FreshRank AI → Analytics) that interprets raw GSC traffic into potential gains from updates and shows progress after each revision.
– Use this alongside Google Analytics to quantify the ROI of content updates and track improvements in impressions, clicks, and rankings.
Simple workflow (six steps)
1. Install FreshRank and connect GSC (optional) and your OpenAI key.
2. Prioritize articles using GSC-based data.
3. Analyze the top-priority posts.
4. Review AI suggestions and adjust rewrite settings to control focus.
5. Generate, review, and approve updated drafts.
6. Track performance and repeat for the next set of posts.
